Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Table
Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative including angels, fiends, and dark forces expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Introduced
Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of heroes who will split off from the main group to begin their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
This explains, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.
At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.
The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a fortified location in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in Timmony and advises that it is a hostile location.
- The warrior and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to execute the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- However, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could help the team access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The grateful character swore a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:
- Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and The healer defied House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.
This means them little choice but to travel to Timmony in quest for the antagonist.
Future Episodes
Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Questers and Strategists groups.
